Maxine was a middle-aged woman who attended my church. Her husband died suddenly of a brain hemorrhage, taking everybody by surprise. She found solace in her horses and shared them with me. She taught me how to ride and loaned me the use of her horse for my first and only horse show. I even placed in it. She was a rock for my family when we were dealing with my mother’s illness and my mother named the stuffed bear she hugged in the hospital after Maxine.
